March 2009 - Dr. Erich Mackow joins our Department from the Department of Medicine.
December 2008 - Our Chair, Dr. Jorge L. Benach was bestowed the University's highest academic rank of Distinguished Professor. The title was created by the SUNY Board of Trustees to recognize and reward the scholarship and research of SUNY’s finest and most accomplished faculty.
The individual must have achieved national or international prominence and a distinguished reputation within the individual's chosen field through significant contributions to the research literature. The person's work must be of such a character that the individual's presence will elevate the standards of scholarship of colleagues both within and beyond the individual's respective academic field.
The person's work must be of such quality that students and scholars on other campuses of the University could and would wish to benefit by lectures and seminars, or other appropriate presentations the individual might bring to them.
December 2008 - Dr. Laurie T. Krug joins the department as an Assistant Professor.
December 2007 - Dr. Adrianus van der Velden joins the department as an Assistant Professor.
July 2007 - Dr. Carol Carter has been appointed to by Michael O. Leavitt, Secretary of Health & Human Services (HHS), to the Council of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Councils of the institutes of the NIH are both executive and advisory to the Directors. Appointment to Counsil by Secretary of H&HS is the culmination of a long process of selection to provide the institutes with individuals of the highest scientific standing who will, in turn, assist in developing the health agenda of the nation.This appointent is a great honor for Carol, for our Department, and for Stony Brook.
May 2007 - Dr. Jorge L. Benach elected to the American Academy of Microbiology.

April 2006 - Dr. Jorge L. Benach assumes the role of Interim Chair of the Department of Molecular Genetics & Microbiology.
January 2006 - Dr. Christopher S. Lee joins the department as an Assistant Professor. He comes from New York University Medical Center. Click here to read an announcement.
November 2005 - Dr. Kepal N. Patel joins the department as an Assistant Professor. He comes to Stony Brook from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he completed his fellowship training in head and neck oncologic surgery.
September 2005 - Please welcome Dr. Wei-Xing Zong from Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. He joins us as an Assistant Professor. Click here to see his web page.
