hops The Beer List hops

Jamie K         Oktoberfest (6% ABV) The definitive beer of the Oktoberfest celebration.  This beer features a mild malt note with a toasty finish.  This year’s version features fresh homegrown hops from Jamie’s own garden.

Matt B.         Viennese Cream Ale (5% ABV) A smooth and easy drinking beer, cream ales are a prototypical American beer.  This version augments the traditional character of an American Cream Ale with a healthy does of Vienna malt which provides some sweetness and a good deal of malt flavor.

Biteback Pale Ale (5% ABV)  Light in color but not in flavor, this American Pale Ale features Centennial hops added late in the boil to provide a rich hop nose and flavor without becoming overly  bitter.  If you can dig around in the flavor behind the hops, you’ll find a subtle malt backbone with a touch of dry biscuit-y goodness.

Gerdie Finebottom’s Brown Ale (5.5% ABV) Inspired by some of the fine moderately hoppy craft-brewed brown ales  brewed in the English style by American microbrewers, this beer has a moderate malt character with a bit of dryness in the finish.  Moderately hopped with Goldings to provide a traditional English character.

Märzen (6% ABV) A traditional beer of the German celebration of spring.   Hoppier than an Oktoberfest, this beer also features a rich malty profile derived from the traditional decoction mash used in wort production.  Note the toasted malt flavor and the balance in the finish.

Rustic Punk’n Spiced Ale (6.5% ABV) Pumpkin ales are a distinctly American creation but when times were tough and fermentable scare, you brewed with what you had, and in the fall, pumpkins are plentiful.  The complex malt bill includes rye and pumpkin in the mash but also traditional pumpkin pie spices have been added in the boil to give this beer the quintessential taste of fall.

Greg S.          Olara Winter Pale Ale: (5% ABV)  Inspired by English Stong Bitter ales, this beer has developed a spicy/tart flavor with a hint of evergreen in the nose and a bitter finish. Olara is the  dwarvish word for pure Magic. I mean, what's not magical about the brewing process?

Luiren Farmhouse Ale: (?? ABV Halflings don't measure their gravity, but it's probably around 7) Made with 5 different malts, wheat, honey, and anything fermentible that a hobbit could find, this unfiltered beer provides plenty of B vitamins and protein to keep us going during the cold days to come.

Harnkeggerfest Summer Ale: (4.5 ABV) Dark in colour yet light in body, this 60' Schilling Scottish ale had the first gallon of wort caramelized to provide a complex sweet flavor. Harnkeggerfest is a 5 day Winter celebration where the first kegs of summer-brewed beer are tapped. Considering I made this in June, I find the name fitting.

Matt T.         Farmer Brown Ale (5% ABV) :  A real beer for real people, this blue-collar brew was boiled in a rusty 50-gallon drum and stirred with an old screwdriver by a guy named "Skeeter" before being left to ferment under the porch. Inspired by the brown ales that have long been a staple of the English working class, this beer is slightly sweet and moderately malty with a subtle hint of earthiness. You can hardly taste the bugs.

Maria Bella's Italian Stout (5% AVB): This charming dark beauty will seduce you with her roasted malt and molasses character, and then leave you with only residual coffee flavors to remember her by. De-bittered black and chocolate malts yield a noticeable but not sharp roasty quality, offset with a very subtle bitterness provided by a conservative addition of Mount Hood hops. Enjoy her while she's here, because she won't be around long.
